Long Range Plan
Outdoor Racquets Expansion (2025–2026)
Construction began in October for the Outdoor Racquets Expansion project which includes six new lighted hydro tennis courts, four permanent padel courts, and significant enhancements to the Great Lawn, including irrigation, new landscaping, and improved viewing areas. The project is expected to be completed in spring 2026.
Operational Update:
With construction now underway on the outdoor courts, please use the Great Lawn (near the Courtside Cafe) to access the Paddle Complex. Access from the Bistro Parking Lot will be closed during construction.
The temporary padel courts on the Great Lawn have been disassembled and have been relocated to Teniko Courts 10 & 11 . The courts are available for play during daytime hours. We cannot wait for the 4 new permanent padel courts to open in April!
Casual Dining & Kitchen Renovation Proposal
The Board of Government and Long-Range Planning Committee invite you to attend upcoming Member Informational Meetings to learn more about the proposed Casual Dining & Kitchen Renovation Project, a transformative investment in Merion’s future.
The Casual Dining & Kitchen Renovation Project was approved by the Board earlier this month and is designed to:
- Expand and enhance casual dining in response to member feedback from the 2023 Membership Survey.
- Address operational inefficiencies in the current kitchens and service areas that impact member experience.
- Ensure that Merion remains a leader in dining excellence while preserving the aesthetic character of our historic campus.

Next Steps
Following these meetings, an updated informational booklet, including information about the member vote, will be emailed to all members. Your comments and perspectives are essential as we refine and finalize the project ahead of the membership vote in the first quarter of 2026.

Connell Cup / Fall Classic
Saturday, November 8, 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Join us as we christen the lanes for a new season of rolling thunder. Always our most popular event, the Connell Cup format is two games, 100% handicap, meaning even the most novice bowler has a chance to eat steak off the silver platter. The rest of the group will enjoy a burger buffet, so everyone’s a winner. This is a complimentary event.
Cricket
The Merion Cricket section has grown to allow two full teams to compete against each other. The first ever all Merion v. Merion cricket match was held in September over two days. The teams each won a match to finish the series 1-1. The winner was determined by a calculation of team efficiency based on runs scored over wickets lost. By this measure Team Maqsood won over Team Bessemer by a score of 34-24.
Merion defeated Philadelphia Cricket Club by 9 wickets and a score of 178 to 177. Mick Field, Shariq Khan and Tahir Maqsood bowled well to keep PCC from scoring and then Scott Huston and Shyam Kamdar batted well to overcome the PCC score to win the match in 20 overs.
Merion then played a home and home series v Haverford College. Merion won both matches handily, one by 72 runs and the other by 9 wickets.
Cricket will continue on the Great Lawn this fall with matches against both local rivals Germantown and Philadelphia Cricket clubs and the Mad Dogs from NYC. An away series will be played in late November in Florida v Sarasota Cricket Club.
Please come out and support the Merion 11 this fall!

Director Led Tour at the Woodmere Art Museum
Wednesday, November 19, 10:00 a.m.
Join MCC members for this Director-led Tour at the Woodmere Art Museum to see the newly opened Maguire Hall. The creation of Frances M. Maguire Hall for Art and Education is the most significant event in the history of Woodmere since it opened its doors to the public in 1910.
The galleries in Frances M. Maguire Hall showcases the collection’s dedication to the inclusive dialogue of contemporary art in Philadelphia. Strengths in 20th-century art are presented, including the specific configurations of American Impressionism, figurative arts, and modernism that are particular to Philadelphia. Three galleries tell the stories of Philadelphia’s jewelry arts, and the top floor of Maguire Hall houses a study center and gallery for works on paper.
Please leave time afterward for a visit to the original gallery to see important works by Violet Oakley and the Red Rose Girls, Arthur B. Carles and his circle, and many others. Woodmere's significant collections of 19th-century landscapes and its founder's collection, along with special exhibitions and the Museum Store, continue to be housed in Woodmere's Charles Knox Smith Hall.
